Kinja'd!!!

buying something from Ikea and hauling it home in my practical classic.

Kinja'd!!!

As my crappy room mate moved out at the end of last month, I’m finally free to do with the living room as I please, so have been hauling furniture around the past couple weeks.

Also, anybody who thinks emissions controls or worries about pollution are nanny-state nonsense, feel free to drive my 50 year old station wagon with the rear hatch cracked open, and enjoy the smell of everything your dumbshit ideas try to write off as not worth worrying about. I do love my old car... but blessed is the catalytic converter and fuel injection.

Hah. I want a bunch of Ivar shelves for the garage but I can’t order the right ones online and nothing 70”x20” is fitting in my car. I can’t decide if I should  hang them out the hatch or pay for delivery.

Can’t beat a truck!

Visiting same Ikea about two years ago with friends, I watched a couple people trying to load a brodozer with one of those semi truck exhaust stacks in the bed. I’d never seen a situation so laughably appalling. There didn’t appear to be a way to tie everything down without anything touching the exhaust.

I think the Saab beats that particular truck easily.

Yeah. Also, your Saab and my truck are probably throwing down similar power.

I was 100hp and 6?? (Feels like) lbft  when new...

This sofa frame box was 83" by 32" - I did measure before buying to make sure the box would fit through the 36" wide hatch. I think Ikea delivery is pretty cheap though? Like $10 or something? (I guess it depends on how close you are to the store)

65hp, and 80-something lbft. The torque peaks at 2500 though so the engine is happy to slog through the gears in a way most imports aren’t.

Some trucks. Most modern truck beds are too short for bigger Ikea stuff. Meanwhile, I could fit my 82" long Ikea bedframe in my little first-gen S40 with the trunk closed.

Ever since trucks all became crew and double cabs, the beds have been pretty short. A double cab Tacoma’s 67" long bed is barely better than my Saab’s 63" long cargo floor, and a Honda Ridgeline and Chevy Colorado are actually shorter!

What would happen if you put a cat for like an 84 Rabbit on the 95?

It would probably ruin the cat after just a few years. High zinc in the oil, lots of hydrocarbons on overrun, etc. I tend to justify driving such a dirty old car with the fact that I put not that many miles on it every year.

Well, I also just drove home from Ikea with the hatch open, since I found an “as-is” sideboard that I needed in the kitchen. It looked like it might fit and it might have with two people but the hatch supports don’t work so I did what I could. Being a much newer car, it probably smelled better but it was also loud as shit with a constant “HATCHBACK OPEN” warning on the dash.

And I checked, it’s $29 to deliver if you order online but $59 delivery  from the store, which is stupid. I might have to work out a better ratchet system and just drive home with the shelves hanging out too.

It’s too bad we don’t go to the ikea near each other. a photo of that with my 240 next to it, both getting loaded up with furniture would be pretty funny!
Swedish cars, Swedish store. And wagons. the best kind.

Which high zinc oil do you use?

I use Rislone additive. Have also used the Shell zinc additive. There really no way to tell which is doing better.

I tried the Hyper-Lube additive though it was pretty expensive. I might try to get a case of Amsoil high zinc formula and see how that is.
